|“||The Talon frigate is an aggressive ship designed to outwit larger enemies. Frigates can only fire forwards.||”|
|— In-Game Description|
It's an effective warship in combat against low level VEGA fleets and in FvF against beginner level fleets. Players eventually move past Talon frigates and build more advanced ships with more mass and slot configurations.

Strategy and Setup
Like all frigates, they are light ships for its tier. They are very agile and perform best in combat at medium ranges, dodging incoming fire and remaining out of enemy's firing arcs.
Talon frigates, like all frigates, can only fire forward in a 135 deg firing arc.
Talon Frigates, like Harrier frigates, are very agile and are more than capable of kiting slower ships with low range weapons.
Talon frigates must use their agility in combat to perform best. When strafing or dodging incoming fire such as projectiles and missiles, they can potentially survive longer than ships that rely on armor and shields to blunt the attack.
Talon frigates are also very fast and can escape from most battles unscathed.
Players who eventually build stronger fleets can re-quip their Talon frigates with cargo modules for collecting or stealing resources, since they are fast, they can usually escape from any pursuing ships except for other frigates.
Because of their low health, configuring them with minimal armor and shields can keep their repair times instantaneous, players should keep the total shield and armor below 300 if they want to take advantage of the Talon frigates expend-ability.
Talon frigates can be upgraded to MK III making their weapons substantially more effective against battleships and destroyers.
Talon frigates can be relatively ineffective in combat when presented with other options such as Exodus cruisers or Venom battleships that players typically are able to build in a few weeks after researching Talon frigates.
Reason because of this varied, such as Talon frigates lacking mass and equipment slots to be effective. They lack armor slots of Exodus cruisers, the range of Broadsword destroyers and weapon slots of Venom battleships. Because of this, players find that it's difficult to take advantage of the frigate's agility in combat and may opt of easier and simpler to use ships. Upgrading Talon frigates to MK III can however make them more effective, players should use Talon frigates as a complementary ship, right behind front line ships that can slip around enemy ships and attack.
Gauss drivers with magnets make Talon frigates effective at medium range, attacking slower and shorter range ships. Using the Talon's speed, they can remain out of their range and continue attacking with impunity.
VEGA hunting: Typically, Talon frigates should be equipped with rear thrusters and long range weapons when fighting VEGA fleets. Gauss drivers with magnets or HEX missiles. Players should engage the pursing VEGA fleets from maximum range, as the enemy ship's with shorter range draw closer to your ships, pull back and avoid being attacked. After you gain some distance, turn around and attack from maximum distance again. This is the standard kiting strategy.
Cargo: The Talon Frigate is often used by high level players as cargo ships due to their two special slots, and instant repair when fitted correctly.
- The Talon Frigate is the only rebellion frigate named for a bird part instead of a bird. The talon is the claw of a bird of prey.
- An enhanced variant of the Talon frigate used to be available for purchase in the market. They were removed from the MKet and any existing enhanced Talon frigates were replaced with MK III variants.
- Talon frigates have the second highest cargo capacity of a ship which can be repaired instantly. Combined with their high sector speed, this makes them useful cargo haulers and thief fleets.
