Fan-made art of the Plasma Missile.

GENERAL

The Plasma Missile is the first of many Plasma-type weapons used by Ancient Aliens. Its projectiles travel slowly until they hit an enemy or reach 5,500 m range, then dive quickly (6,500 m/s) towards their targets, creating a small AoE. Note that the weapon only deals damage during the dive phase.

While this weapon has a very long cooldown, its damage per shot is quite high, dealing enough damage to one-shot a Diffuser Shield III in a single volley. Its +25% shield bypass also greatly increases the damage passed through the shields.

APPEARANCE

The Plasma Missile is used by Ancient Reapers. Each Ancient Reaper only carries a single Plasma Missile, but it is already more than enough to cause major damage from extreme range.

STRATEGY

During the dive phase, the missiles home in towards their targets, so dodging won't get you anywhere here.

Regenerating shields work great against the Plasma Missiles as it has a long cooldown, more than enough for the shields to fully recharge, provided that the shield does not deplete fully from the attack.

If you cannot block the missiles head on, make sure your ships aren't too close together, otherwise multiple ships will be hit by the AoE.

Try not to drive into the missiles if you are within 5,500 m because they might "pass through" your ships into the middle of your fleet just before the dive phase, again causing damage to multiple ships.

Plasma resistance can reduce the armor damage taken from this weapon.

TRIVIA

  • The Plasma Missile was first introduced into the game during the AXIS event preview, in Ancient Reaper Fleets. Back then there was no Plasma resistance, so many players complained about the massive damage output of the Plasma Missiles.
  • The projectile speed and spread stats only apply to the initial phase; the dive phase has 6,500 m/s speed and 0 deg spread.
