Infernal Gatling Ray I, II, and III, Respectively

General

Infernal Gatling Ray is a heavily modified version of the original Gatling ray developed by VSEC. Heavily modified by the Demon Corps, it deals far more damage and is exclusive to Demon Corps ships only. They are available in the re-occurring Alien Mobilization events.

Strategy and setup

Advantages:

On top of the regular Gatling ray, they possess overwhelming firepower and incredible efficiency in terms of firepower to mass. Often equipped on Covenant cruisers and Basilisk cutters, they are able to eliminate targets at a shocking pace. To add to this, they can pierce targets, making it possible to destroy 2 targets in 1 full blast.

Disadvantages:

They are exclusive to Demon Corps hulls, greatly decreasing its use if the player as a small amount of Demon Corps Hulls, and just like the Gatling Ray they have been nerfed to include a short reload in between barrages. Its main purpose in rushing is often replaced by the Manifold Missile, as the Manifold missile does a damage similar to that of a infernal weapon, but has a higher range, less weight, is cheaper, and is very versatile. To add to this the Infernal Gatling Ray is terrible at destroying squadrons, which is usually a problem for rushing cutters.

A huge downside to the Infernal Gatling ray is that it has a HUGE amount of build time and resource cost. The III version has already a 2 day refit time and costs over 10 million resources in total. This can make ships like the Basilisk Cutter have a long, long refit time along with a cost that will drain your resources out. Added to that, they are extremely heavy, making it hard to balance your ship out with good tech.

They are difficult to obtain in Alien Mobilization, in which the Infernal Gatling ray was released. Players had to fight extremely difficult alien hive fleets which induced repair time onto fleets, commonly leaving them destroyed. They are also reusable items when purchased meaning you have a limited amount to equip. This drastically reduces overall use in this weapon as most players rarely have enough for a fleet of Basilisk Cutters, so many players stick with the Manifold Missile instead.

Trivia

  • It has the most firepower as a single weapon, surpassing even the Burst ray.
