GENERAL

The Heavy Viper Missile is an extremely devasting Alien weapon that deals explosive AoE damage. It is basically the Viper Missile on steroids: more range, more damage, and most importantly, twice the number of shots.

This weapon also has built-in shield bypass, increasing damage to the armor through shields.

APPEARANCE

Each Barrage Harvester possesses 3 Heavy Viper Missile. The singleplayer versions deal significantly more damage with the missiles than the co-op ones.

In Geir's Fortress, Geir's elite Harvester guard also has Heavy Viper Missiles (4 of them), but they have slightly less range and deal much less damage.

STRATEGY

Strategies that work against the regular Viper Missile also work against the Heavy Viper Missile.

This weapon has a large minimum range. It would be wise to blitz in and enter the minimum range as soon as possible to minimize the damage taken.

In order to successfully shield-switch, one must strafe the targeted ship backwards before the second volley is fired, otherwise the same ship will get targeted twice.

Note that ship-blocking is effective against this weapon, meaning that you could block the missiles by putting another ship in front of the target. Beware of the AoE that can potentially damage multiple ships!

TRIVIA

  • The Heavy Viper Missile first appeared in Barrage Harvester fleets during the second Alien Decimation of March 2017. Many players avoided these fleets due to the massive repair bills they gave.
