Gatling rays fire an unstoppable stream of energy bolts for extended bursts before pausing for a brief moment. The bullets can pierce through one target to strike targets behind it. They are excellent for short- to medium- range combat.
Gatling rays are uncommon, though they are sometimes seen on mid- level to high- level players. Players often choose Aurora ray over the Gatling ray for different advantages, most notably the bonus damage to shields.

The real life Gatling gun is the ancestor of the modern machine gun. It has an extremely high rate of fire, which the Gatling Ray shares.
Similarly, the Gatling Ray constantly fires Energy bolts at a target, without stopping unless its reloading or until the opponent moves out of range or is destroyed.
Its piercing effect is not as deadly as that of an AP Driver, but the DPS does not decrease with the pierce, and not to mention, the Gatling Ray's sustained fire, and lack of minimum range make up for that weakness. This piercing effect can potentially double its damage output, with level III doing more total damage than the burst ray. This weapon excels at damaging grouped ships much more than many other energy weapons do.
It also has the same range as an Aurora ray, making it almost as good for taking out enemy fleets. When used against clustered enemies by a ship with 6 weapon slots like the Fury battleship, the weapon is truly devastating.
Gatling ray enhanced with focused optics can be suitable for medium range combat on cruisers, and long range combat on battleships. Gatling rays can perform particularly well against cutters, which tend to pack into a tight formation.
Lower level Gatling rays lack firepower, particular Gatling ray I and II. while Gatling ray III has a very high amount of firepower, it also has a very high mass.
Gatling rays can miss its targets, particularly at medium or long ranges, since the bullets spread out.
Gatling rays surprisingly have a lot of difficulty shooting down squadrons since they can only target one at a time. The piercing has minimal effect on squadrons and the spread reduces its accuracy against squadrons.
Gatling rays, like Thermal beams, have a brief pause when switching targets.
Gatling rays previously suffered a bug in which the bullets fired did not connect with their targets, resulting in a drastically diminished amount of firepower. This had not been noticed by anyone until recently, when it was fixed.
