GENERAL
The Flux Ray is a unique weapon only for elite Alien spacecraft. It looks like a green Pulse Ray. Its firing cycle is also similar to that of the Pulse Ray, but it has a slightly longer firing delay and a moderate reloading period.
This weapon has extreme range (even longer than the Rift Beam) and has a piercing ability, allowing it to hit multiple ships in a line. It also deals Alien damage, which cannot be resisted by any shield.
APPEARANCE
The Flux Ray only appears in Alien Harvester fleets during Alien Decimation. Each Harvester contains 2 Flux Rays which deal relatively low damage to a maximum of 2 separate targets.
STRATEGY
Although the Flux Ray deals low damage, its threat cannot be underestimated. It is a nuisance to players who attempt to kite the Harvesters because its piercing ignores ship-shielding and prevents shields from recharging by applying damage every so often, disrupting any shield-switching tactics.
When blitzing the Harvester, it is advised to line up your ships perpendicular to the enemy fire to avoid extra damage caused by the piercing effect of the Plasma Ray.
Note that the Flux Ray does not home in on its targets. Therefore, it is theoretically possible to dodge this weapon, especially at long range.
TRIVIA
- The Flux Ray first appeared in Alien Harvesters during the original Alien Decimation.
- This weapon has been originally named the Plasma Ray. With the release of the Plasma damage type, it has now been renamed to Flux Ray.
